Piracy: BIMCO Issues Alert
Withhold Information, BIMCO Warn Ships
The Baltic and International Maritime Council, BIMCO, has issued a warning regarding on alleged security breach in the Maritime Trade Information Sharing Center within the Gulf of Guinea, has recommended that vessels entering the area should “limit the provision of any information which would allow vessels to be identified or tracked.”
This is coming as cases of kidnaps/hijack of ships is assuming a turn for the worse in the Gulf of Guinea.
It is suspected that corrupt captains and crew members may be giving pirates vital information on ship position and type of cargo on board thereby preparing pirates in the region to attack ships ruthlessly.
