Revenue Drive: ACG Zone “A” Combs International Airport, NIPOST Offices
In continuation of his inspection tour and assessment of how compliant factories within his zone are in the payment of Excise Duties, the Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, ACG Zone A, Eporwei Charles Edike has paid an unscheduled visit to the Murtala International Airport Lagos to enforce Duty Payment on goods imported through the airport.
The visit, we gathered, was also intended to reawaken Customs officers posted to the airport to be more vigilant and ensure that no amount is lost through negligence as every kobo counts and matters very much to the country, especially at lean times such as the country is going through.
At the NIPOST Office, the Officer in charged Assistant Comptroller Fawora informed the Zonal Coordinator that NIPOST claims to be remitting all duties collected into the Federal Government Account directly. Nothwithstanding, the Customs NIPOST Office assigned Officers to go round the NIPOST Offices within Lagos and collect Returns. At this juncture, the Zonal Coordinator directed the Officer in Charged to make sure that duties remitted by NIPOST into the Federal Government account tally with the Returns on her table and forward a comprehensive report to her Controller.
ACG Eporwei Edike did not stop at that, he went round the international Airport to inspect the Basement where Cargos are Tracked on Arrival and tracked before departure to make sure Officers perform their duties in a manner approved by the Customs Management Board.
At the Duty Free Shops, the Zonal Coordinator confirmed from the Sale managers that the duty free shops are open to passengers with boarding passes only.
