CHINA SEEKS STRONGER COLLABORATION WITH NIGERIA CUSTOMS
In recognition of the huge trade between Nigeria and China, efforts have been on to ensure that goods from China do not suffer delays nor attract clearing costs which are more oen than not born by the innocent consumers of such imports in Nigeria.
The Deputy Consulate General of the Peoples republic of China, Mr. Li Yong recently visited the Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘A’, ACG Eporwei CB Edike to strengthen and enhance the already existing bilateral trade investment between Nigeria and the Republic of China. He stressed the fact that the role of the Nigeria Customs cannot be over stated as the Country’s economy is experiencing deep adjustment and low growth.
Mr Li Yong who represented the Consulate General, requested for an interactive forum between the Customs and the Peoples Republic of China in Nigeria to enable them have more knowledge on Customs import/Export Laws and Regulations.
The training, he said will improve their knowledge of Customs Import and Export Laws and Regulations and so reduced friction between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Chinese traders in Nigeria.
The Zonal Coordinator thanked the Deputy Consulate General for the visit and appreciated his effort in seeking for an interactive session to educate his people in Customs Import/Export laws and regulations. This, Edike said, will go a long way in trade facilitation and revenue generation which is part of customs mandate.
On the issue of interactive forum, the Zonal Coordinator promised to forward the Deputy Consulate General request to the Comptroller General for permission to organize the session.
This pleased Mr. Li Young. He expressed his happiness thus “I am glad to meet the Zonal Coordinator and the management of Zone ‘A’ and sincerely believe that the visit will deepen the relationship between the People’s Republic of China and Nigeria.
