All Maritime Journalists Retreat sets Industry Agog

The Nigerian Maritime Industry and the Oil and Gas sector is agog as the Maiden All Nigerian Maritime Journalists Retreat organized by the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria, AMJON holds from November 9 -11, 2016 at Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Topo, Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria.

With the theme “Increasing Investment Opportunities in Nigeria’s Rich Maritime and Oil & Gas Sectors”, stakeholders, investors, the Nigerian Navy, government agencies and others have been busy with preparations.

The event which promises to attract the crème de la crème in the Maritime, Oil and Gas and other allied industries, has the Lagos State governor; Mr Akinwumi Ambode as the Chief host while the honourable Minister of Transportation Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi is the Special Guest of Honour.

President of AMJON, Mr. Ismail Anienu while speaking on what informed the retreat said “We at AMJON believe in Capacity Building for Maritime Journalists. We also seek ways of contributing to national development, nudging policy makers to the realities in the Maritime and Oil and Gas sectors, as well as setting agenda for government and operators in the maritime and oil and Gas sectors”.

Some of the topics slated for discussion include:

Public Private Participation in Sea Port Development; Evaluation of Port Concession and Green Field Development.

Emerging Status of Badagry as Maritime, Oil and Gas Hub; Opportunities, Expectations and the Issues.

SOLARS Convention, Nimasa and Safe Shipping on Nigerian Waters; Challenges and Expectations.

Poverty Eradication; New Sea Ports as Catalyst for Wealth Creation and Job Opportunities

 

Lecture: News Reporting, Censorship and Press Freedom in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety agency, (NIMASA), National Inland Waterways Authority, (NIWA) Nigeria Shippers’ Council (NSC); Maritime Academy of Nigeria; Oron; Oil & Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) are among Agencies that will address the topics listed.

While Prince Tony Momoh is scheduled to deliver the lecture, Senator Ali Wakili is expected to speak on the topic; Poverty Eradication; New Sea Ports as Catalyst for Wealth Creation and Job Opportunities.

Chairman, planning committee, Mr. Paul Ogbuokiri said the general public is invited to participate and make contributions to discussions at the retreat.
