Economic Recovery: Senate Poised to Pass 2017 Budget
With the return of President Buhari to Nigeria after weeks on medical check up in London, the National Assembly has assured Nigerians that the 2017 budget would be passed into law by the end of March, 2017, the president of the Senate Mr. Bukola Saraki said on Tuesday.
According to the Senate President “This month is our deadline to finish work on the budget and return it to the executive,” He stated this after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and the head of parliament’s lower chamber.
Recall that Buhari presented his record 7.298 trillion naira ($23.21 billion) budget to lawmakers in December.
The budget must be agreed by lawmakers before being passed back to the President and signed into law for implementation.
Heads of ministries and agencies of government have already appeared at the National Assembly to defend their budget
