The President and Citizens, Federal Republic of Nigeria Welcomes Kitack Lim and Other Maritime Delegates to AAMA 2017
As maritime professionals from across the continents gather in Abuja, Capital city of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the Association of African Maritime Administrations, AAMA, conference, expectations are high that the continent of Africa and indeed, the world’s maritime industry will be repositioned for greater advancements as Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, IMO, Mr. Kitack Lim, leads other delegates in crucial discussions aimed at improvements in shipping globally.
The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has assured delegates that apart from showcasing Nigeria’s Maritime Potentials to the world, AAMA 2017 will also bring about interactions, business meetings, exchange of ideas and contacts among the maritime stakeholders in Africa and those from other parts of the world.
He also said the conference will enhance Nigeria’s quest of emerging a hub of maritime destination for the West and Central African region.
Dr. Dakuku Peterside, who is Nigeria’s chief Maritime Administrator, also stated that the conference holds enormous opportunities for maritime investors expected in Nigeria.
In his words, “In addition to the maritime administrations that would be attending the event other critical stakeholders such as shipping companies, terminal operators, shipping agents, freight forwarders and other sundry maritime and shipping services providers would also be in attendance and this will bring about exchange of ideas and contacts with the Nigerian stakeholders”
Issues such as Ports development and its modernization, maritime tourism, shipbuilding, repairs, among several others shall be discussed at the conference.
32 countries from Africa and other maritime stakeholder organizations from around the world are expected to participate at the continental conference.
With professional interactions among importers, exporters, shipping firms, freight forwarders, chandeliers, and other service providers, it is expected that such talks will ultimately lead to increased maritime activities in Nigeria and beyond.
The theme of this year’s AAMA Conference is “Sustainable use of Africa’s Oceans and Seas”. It holds from 19 – 21 of April 2017.
