Ease of Doing Business: Police Set up Special Desk
Marine Police Command of the Nigerian Police Force, NPF, in collaboration with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, is set to establish specials desk in the ports to check and possibly forestall cases of arrest of containers cleared from the ports by Customs.
Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Pius Imue made the promise when he visited the NSC’s Head office in Lagos to discuss issues affecting the Council the regulatory role of the NSC.
After deep deliberations, the AIG assured the Council of support in carrying out its statutory obligations at the ports.
While promising to create a team that will work with NSC and other Federal Government agencies at the ports, he emphasized that police officers are at the disposal of the Council each time it wants to carry out monitoring and compliance function within and outside the ports.
The AIG disclosed that the Desk would be made up of officers who are knowledgeable and have integrity to deliver on this special assignment to stop to interception of already cleared cargoes.
AIG Pius Imue also disclosed that it has been discovered that some police officers who are not under Marine Police domain were in the habit of writing terminal operators to stop release of containers.
This and other infractions causing delays and increasing cost of doing business in the ports, the AIG promised to bring to a halt in deference to the Executive Orders recently issued by the Federal Government.
