“We are Promoters Not Builders of TTPs”-Hassan Bello
Contrary to reports that the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, is going to build the much talked about Truck Transit Parks, TTP, in very busy corridors on highways across the country, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Mr. Hassan Bello has debunked such claims at the National Summit on the TTPs in Abuja which has been concluded.
Specifically,  Bello said the NSC, as part of its regulatory functions is doing everything it can to ensure fast, smooth and safe delivery of cargoes from Sea Port/Inland Port to destination   across Nigeria.
In his words, “For the avoidance of doubt and to set the records straight, the Council is not going to build the Truck Transit Parks. The TTP is a Public Private Sector Partnership, PPP/Build Own Operate and Transfer, BOOT, project that the Council is promoting and facilitating because of the business opportunities inherent in the TTP and the numerous ancillary services that will come with the establishment of the Parks.”
“To say that the Council is going to build Truck Transit Parks in eighteen months is not correct. We are working with state governments and corporate bodies. The modalities, specifications and standards are going to be the same in any TTP.”
“It is an investment option for prospective investors and entrepreneurs in the haulage/trucking business to explore and participate in” Bello stated.
On the Safety and Security of Cargoes, Bello disclosed that instruments for enforcement are being worked out in conjunction with security agencies. He said electronics monitoring devices will be installed to track the movement of cargo from one location to another so that the owners of cargoes do not become unnecessarily apprehensive about their cargo.
“The TTP is a project that will translate into the springing up of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises as their Service will be needed by Truck drivers and cargo owners. This will definitely create jobs for our people on such corridors and open up the economy” the Shippers’ Council helmsman said.
