Why MAN Oron Suspended Admission
Facts have emerged on why the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, MAN, Oron, suspended admission for prospective students who applied for admission this year.
Credible sources in Oron told us that admission was suspended to allow ongoing rehabilitation work on hostels, Refectory, classrooms and other key facilities for the comfort of Cadets of the Academy to be completed before resumption by Cadets.
We gathered from informed sources that rehabilitation works are been carried out around the clock to make the Academy a world class maritime Institution which Nigeria/Nigerians would be proud of.
Our source also hinted that hostel spaces meant for four Cadets which were being occupied by over ten Cadets have caused the spread of communicable diseases/infections-a development which the present management found very disturbing.
We are reliably told that it is for health and safety reasons and in order to make Cadets more comfortable and the learning environment much more conducive that admission had to be put on hold for repairs and out right reconstruction of some structures before Cadets are allowed into the Academy.
Recall that a statement signed by Mr. Siddi Mkpandiok, Director, corporate affairs of the Academy, had informed intending Cadets of the suspension of admission for the 2017/2018 session.
According to the statement the suspension “is due to the on-going Restructuring and Repositioning exercise being carried out in the Institution by the Federal Government. However, this does not affect Short Courses and Mandatory Programmes which will continue to run as at when due”.
Our very dependable source disclosed that PGD Cadets of the Academy have resumed studies while others could be recalled any moment as everything is being done to ensure that Cadets study in conducive classrooms and live in safe, hygienic hostels.
