Commodore Effedua Duja (rtd), Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria.

The Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, MAN, Oron, Commodore Effedua Duja (rtd) has expressed his joy and optimism as the Governing Council of the Academy and other parastatals under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, FMOT, are set for inauguration by the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

In a chanced encounter with the Rector in Uyo recently, Effedua stated emphatically that the Governing Council would bring to bear the needed stability at MAN.

According to the Rector, “In years past, there was no Governing Council for the Academy. The absence of which was exploited by some persons to do and undo. With the caliber of men we are blessed to have in our Council, a lot of political will is expected to come in our favour which will enable us achieve the Restructuring vision of the Federal Government”.

Responding to our enquiry on the Interim Management Committee, IMC, Effedua said the IMC has concluded its assignment and submitted its final report to the federal government. He added that implementation of recommendations by the IMC shall be carried out in phases.

Specifically, the Rector hinted that recent adverts in some national dailies by the Academy are part of the ongoing restructuring efforts at MAN, Oron.

In his words “It’s a new dawn for us at the Academy. I am happy and excited that the Governing Council is coming even as the Interim Management Committee has concluded work and submitted its report”.

“The IMC took a critical, very dispassionate look at the Academy. The recommendations are very fundamental and in the days to come you shall be hearing and seeing them at the Academy”, the Rector said.

Stakeholders are hopeful that MAN Oron, under the Rector’s leadership would attain its place among Maritime Academies in the world.
