Rector, NASS, Council Unite to Transform MAN by Chris Eyo
With the inauguration of the Governing Council of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, MAN Oron, the Interim Management Committee having submitted its final report to the honourable minister of Transportation, Honourable Rotimim Amaechi and the House of Representatives Committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration commending the Rector’s efforts at repositioning the Academy for Academic excellence, the synchronization of thoughts and ideas are indicators that MAN Oron is on the verge of breaking free from the jinx of stagnation.
With a blueprint for restructuring to implement, the Rector Commodore Emmanuel Duja Effedua (rtd), within his few months of taking charge of the Academy has effected strategic changes to reposition MAN Oron for efficient Service delivery to clients and Cadets of the Academy.
Chairman board of governing Council of the Academy, Chief Demola Seriki, during a recent visit commended the Rector’s efforts and promised to do all within his powers to support the Rector towards making the Academy a better place.
Commending the Rector, Chief Seriki said,
“The Council is greatly impressed by efforts of the Rector. We must work with the template of the Federal Government to transform the Academy and its products for global competitiveness. It is our resolve to negotiate with the National Assembly on matters of provision of facility, funding and other relevant support for the effective administration of the Academy”
On his part, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration, honourable Mohammed Bago, observed, on another recent oversight visit to the Academy that it was obvious that Commodore Effedua understands the history and recurrent circumstances in the Academy and has responded to them with practical steps that points to a greater future.
In his words “Let me say that what we have seen today is a complete deviation from what it used to be. It is clear that deliberate steps have been taken to comply with earlier directives. On that note, I must, on behalf of my Committee commend the Rector for the strides he has recorded in so short a time and to encourage him not to rest on his oars until the battle is won. We are very impressed with the progress so far recorded.”
The Rector, exuding confidence of a captain on board a familiar vessel with the requisite leadership qualities, expressed his readiness to work with all well-meaning stakeholders-be they within or outside the country to bring about the much needed changes at the Academy.
Observers are optimistic that the synergy between the Rector, National Assembly and the governing council could lead to better days at the Academy.
