MM Customs Impound Tramadol Capsules
In line with ongoing efforts at safe guarding Nigerians from the adverse effects of illicit drugs and dangerous substances by the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, officers and men of the Service at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja have intercepted and impounded Tramadol Capsules which could have entered the country if not for the alertness/preparedness by Customs officers at the MM Command.
Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command Dr. Jayne Shoboiki, notwithstanding her insistence on Revenue and Trade Facilitation also emphasizes Safety and Security of Nigerians from dubious importers who, in pursuit of money, could import prohibited items into the country.
Specifically, eagle eyed Customs officers at SAHCOL Shed intercepted 180 cartons of Tramadol Capsules with a market value of $181, 000, (over N65m) within the week.
The CAC, after preliminary investigations invited officials of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC and handed over the seized drugs to them for further investigation and necessary action to enable her officers concentrate on their primary duties at the Airport.
Receiving the seized consignment, Deputy Director of NAFDAC at the Airport, Pharmacist Udoekpo Ekpo, thanked the CAC for her commitment to duty, diligence and adherence to inter agency collaboration/sharing of intelligence in the overall interest of the country.
Recalled that Dr. Shoboiki on assumption of office as CAC at the MM Command charged her officers to rise up and be prepared to be accountable for any act of infraction in their duty posts within the Command.
While declaring that she will not tolerate revenue leakages, the CAC also stressed the need for Customs officers to be extra vigilant and careful while carrying out their duties.
That vigilance and professional conduct may be paying off already as the Command under her continues to record operational achievements.
