Brace Up for Modernization-Shoboiki
*Harps on Maximum Revenue Collection
*National Security
*Discipline/Enforcement
Customs Area Controller, CAC, Murtala International Airport Command, Ikeja Lagos, Dr. Jayne Shoboiki, has charged officers and men
of the Command to brace up and rise up to the demands and challenges of the ongoing modernization efforts of the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd).
Speaking during the launch/unveiling of the new Customs uniform at the Command, the CAC, emphasized that in line with the CGC’s Presidential mandate to Reform, Restructure and Raise Revenue, all officers have a duty/responsibility to ensure that the mandate is accomplished.
Consequently, she charged all units/sectional heads to ensure 100% physical examination of all inbound cargo for maximum revenue collection and ensure national security.
Dr. Shoboiki also tasked her officers to be diligent and extra careful in cargo inspection as modernization and deployment of ICT tools has made it possible for all Customs Commands to be monitored from Abuja.
While admitting that the upgrade/migration from ASYCUDA to Nigeria Custom Integrated System, NICIS 11 has thrown up operational challenges, she assured officers and stakeholders/agents that all such issues were being worked on by the Technical Team from Headquarters which was on ground at the Command to resolve all such issues/challenges.
Also, the CAC was emphatic that the new uniform must be used properly by officers. She said Customs is a paramilitary organization which demands discipline and professional conduct from the rank and file.
Shoboiki warned that female officers who carry unnecessarily long hair and heavy lip stick run the risk of being sanctioned severely at the Command level and by Customs Management Board.
In her words “Proper dressing goes beyond maintaining modesty and decorum in the Service. Improper dressing is an offence that attracts severe disciplinary sanctions. You must dress in a manner that is approved by the Board and Public Service Rules.”
Dr. Shoboiki, while congratulating Customs officers at her Command that got promoted recently stated that such promotion is a call to greater duty. She tasked those who have not gotten their promotions not to relent as it is bound to come in due course.
