Orders Bonded terminal operators to quit Ajegunle
The lagos state government issued a 21-day ultimatum to owners of bonded terminals in Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state to vacate or face sanctions.
The latest quit notice came after nine days after Governor Akinwunmi Ambode ordered immediate shutdown of no fewer than five bonded terminal in Ajegunle, including Don Climax Bonded Terminals and Queena Bonded Terminal for violating the approved layout by the government during inspection of the area in the wake of traffic gridlock occasioned by tankers and articulated vehicles.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Rotimi Ogunleye, issued the ultimatum after a closed door meeting in the council secretariat with the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edgal Imohimi and owners of terminals.
The commissioner, who said the measure became necessary as the bonded terminals were located in a community designated for residential purposes, said: “The Community is not designed to accommodate such business.”
Ogunleye said: “Operating a bonded terminal within Ajegunle is in conflict with the state’s Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law. “The illegal sitting of the terminals has disrupted the socio-economic lives of the people of Ajegunle and environs and caused hardship to motorists, so we cannot allow that to continue.”
Ogunleye also issued a quit notice within 48 hours to operators of articulated vehicles parked on various streets in Ajegunle and Olodi Apapa or risk being impounded.
