The election which was umpired by Margaret Orakwusi also had Engr. Greg Ogbeifun rendering supervisory support and direction to herald the elected officers into office.

Dr. McGeorge Oyong, Managing Director of Jevkon Oil, polled 12 votes to beat his runner up, Engr. Alfred Okoigun by 2 votes.

While Enoh Williams and Sonny Eja emerged as 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents respectively, Mr. Wilson Nwagwu emerged Chairman, Training and Capacity Building Committee.

Other elected official are Engr. Lucky Akhiwu, Chairman, Technical Committee, Babalola Adefarati, Financial Secretary/Treasurer and Mr. Wisdom Nwagwu, Chairman, Training and Capacity Building Committee.

Mrs. Iroghama Obuoforibo also got elected as Chairman, Finance and Membership Committee, and Dr. Louis Ekere emerged Chairman, Ethics and Privileges Committee.

Dr. McGeorge Oyong promised to run a compact, inclusive government while calling on his executive team and all SOAN members to come with ideas to improve SOAN and enhance members’ fortune.

Thanking Engr. Greg Ogbeifun for his pioneering efforts and leadership qualities, the new President of SOAN revealed that he wears size 42 shoes but will try and fit into Greg’s size 45.

Calling on Greg not to abandon the SOAN Ship on account of his (Greg) stepping aside, Oyong insisted that you do not look for periwinkle in the soup if there is snail.

He thanked Orakwusi for her commitment to the SOAN course and pledged to work with industry stakeholders in the overall interests of the country.

Engr. Greg Ogbeifun promised to make himself, time and resources available to SOAN any time as the elected executives get down to business of improved shipping in Nigeria.
