SCRABBLE AS AN ECONOMIC TOOL

Jobs, National Integration, Network and Synergy

Scrabble is an indoor/outdoor board game of words, fortune and fame. It requires discipline, mental and physical exertion like every other sport.

With some national attention, it has the potential to take many of our people off the streets. The Nigeria Scrabble Federation, NSF, can attest to this.

Following the sterling performance of Team Nigeria at the just concluded World English Language Scrabble Players Championship, WESPAC, held in Goa India from 15-20th October, 2019, Nigeria emerged the number one Scrabble Playing nation in the world.

NSF officials and players struggled to be in India. With better preparations and support, the players could have fared better.

Notwithstanding, Nigeria’s Enoch Nwali emerged World no 5 Scrabble player while other players came home with individual trophies as well.

Scrabble is under reported, grossly under funded and undermined by government and other public/private sector operators.

Former Akwa Ibom state governor instituted the Akpabio Scrabble Classics sometime ago with a $20, 000 first prize tag.

Top rated players of the game from all over the world came to Nigeria to participate in the tournament year after year.

World scrabble champion, Nigel Richard was outplayed by Nigerians on several occasions until, through dogged determination, he won.

Recall that our own Wellington Jighere was crowned world WESPAC champion in 2015. President Mohammadu Buhari congratulated and hosted him at the Presidential Villa Abuja for the feat.

Mr. Wale Ilori is a Nigerian who is teaching and coaching young Britons on how to play Scrabble in Britain.

There are many other Nigerians who depend on and feed their families and dependants from proceeds accruing to them from playing/teaching Scrabble just like other sports.

There is no limit to what could be achieved from playing scrabble.

Like the Nigerian Seafarers Development Programme, NSDP, Scrabble has the capacity to engage thousands of our youths and put their energies to gainful use.

Scrabble is a game for everybody. Contrary to beliefs that it is a game for intellectuals or acada persons, Scrabble is just a word game with its own words. Anyone who takes time to master Scrabble Words could be a Master Scrabbler and attain financial freedom therefrom.

We are knocking on doors, appealing to individuals, groups, public and private sector operators to partner with us as we launch the Corporate Nigeria Scrabble Championship, CORNISCH on December 14, 2019, to unveil the immense economic potentials of the game of Scrabble-a game which puts Nigeria on top of the world.

Team Nigeria that conqured the world in India.

As we make concerted efforts to address the many challenges we face, Scrabble is a viable economic option we should explore because- It pays to play scrabble.
