Maritime CEOs Keep Ports Alive
“At this period, we must sustain our economy through shipping” they say
There seems to be appreciable synergy in the ongoing port operations among the Federal government agencies involved.
While the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, leads in moving concerned persons-clearing agents and others to and fro the ports, the NPA and NIMASA are giving all necessary support without making a show of it.
Understandably, it could be economically devastating to shut down the ports considering the slump in crude price globally.
At a recent meeting with stakeholder the Director General NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh had said,
“We are in trying times and all hands must be on deck to sustain the Nigerian economy. Let me assure all stakeholders and the shipping community that on our part as a regulatory Agency we will continue to embrace collaboration. This is a phase and it will soon be over, because today’s pains are necessary for tomorrow’s gains”,
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barrister Hassan Bello, who was at the meeting assured that Federal Government Agencies in the sector will endeavor to work together and synergize to ensure ease of information sharing through a single data window, as it will help the sector to grow.
Accordingly, to Hassan Bello “at this period, we must sustain our economy through shipping, though it is a delicate balance, considering the havoc the pandemic has caused the globe that is why we are working hand in hand to ensure ports activities continue, while not being detrimental to human lives”.
Evidently, walking the talk has never been more demonstrated.
All adopted safety measures are being strictly observed as concerns for national wellbeing makes it imperative for men to be on duty at this very difficult times.
In the words of Dr. Jamoh “The world was not prepared for the pandemic and that is why we are trying to ease the pressure on our industry, while taking necessary precautions to safeguard lives. We will continue to review these guidelines where necessary to ensure that shipping does not suffer, especially when it comes to movement of medical facilities through the sea”
We appreciate efforts by personnel on duty to keep the ports running.
The heads of the agencies deserve commendation for this new found collaborative synergy. It must be sustained even after covid19 for the good of country and citizens.
There is so much we could achieve by believing and trusting in our abilities to deliver on assigned national duties.
Covid19 challenges us to look inwards for solution to our peculiar needs.

If other sectors emulate the leadership example displayed in the maritime industry, a new progressive dawn awakens in Nigeria.
Kudos to NIMASA, NSC, NPA and NCS for tactically keeping the ports running amidst the challenges.
We at Maritime Nigeria salute all maritime stakeholders as well for their support and cooperation.
Let’s keep it going.
