NPA Commits To Traffic Decongestion
Set to Remove Obstacles Along Traffic Corridors
The Nigerian Ports Authority, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and relevant security agencies will commence a full scale clean-up operations at the two Lagos Ports on Monday 5th July, 2021.
The excercise tagged “360 Degrees Cargo Clearance” is expected to cover all entry approaches to the Tin Can Island Complex, Lagos Port Complex, Kirikiri Lighter Terminals I and II and the port corridor crisscrossing Tin Can ā Coconut ā Sunrise ā Mile 2 ā Orile ā Ijora Sifax ā Ijora Olopa ā Lilypond ā Area B ā Wharf Road ā Creek Road ā Old Dockyard Road ā Seaplane ā Apapa Wharf Gate.
The operations will ensure the clearance of shanties, kiosks, abandoned vehicles, machineries, equipment, containers obstructing the free flow of traffic as well as those constituting environmental nuisance or serving as hideouts for criminal elements.
All those who illegally trade or reside in these aforementioned places are advised to vacate these areas forthwith.
The understanding and cooperation of members of the public are solicited during the exercise as the goal of the clean-up operation is to make the ports safer and environmentally friendly.
Mr Ibrahim Nasiru, NPAās Assistant General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, in a statement, saidĀ all trucks doing business at the ports in Lagos will be required to park at approved truck parks until they are called-up into the port through āEtoā, the new application.
āThe āEtoā application will be responsible for the scheduling, entry and exit of all trucks into the port with effect from 27th February 2021,ā the statement said.
With the deployment of āEtoā, truck companies, terminal operators and freight agents are required to download the app, and then proceed to create an account to monitor the schedule and movement of their trucks in and out of the port.
According to the managers of the e-call up system, Messrs Trucks Transit Parks Ltd (TTP), benefits to subscribers of āEtoā include increased returns on logistics investment while maximising time per trip.
