AS NIMASA PR UNIT BAGS AWARD

Dr. Bashir Jamoh, Director General, NIMASA

As we sail towards the end of the year, after a painstaking, very exhaustive editorial debate, based on verifiable evidence, statistics, available data with inputs and responses from select maritime stakeholders;

Dr. Bashir Jamoh, Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, is declared the undisputed Maritime Man of the year 2021 just as NIMASA’s PR Unit wins the Most Proactive and Responsive Media Award!

For Jamoh’s efforts at securing Nigerian waters by deployment of assets under the Integrated National Security and Waterways Protection Infrastructure, commonly referred to as the Deep Blue Project;

For painstakingly pursuing and ensuring the enactment of the Suppression of Piracy and Other Maritime Crimes (SPOMO) Act 2019 which he describes  as  “Victory for Nigeria as a whole as we are determined more than ever before to take our rightful place in the comity of maritime nations” and the convictions secured therefrom;

For initiating the Forum of Maritime CEOs;

NIMASA

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu (right) and Director-General, (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, in an elbow bump when the director-general paid a courtesy visit to the governor at Government House, Lagos recently

For ensuring that the ports were not shut and remain open (in collaboration with other agencies and stakeholders) even as the Covid19 Pandemic rages;

For his commitment to Seafarers training/certification, Dock workers welfare and improved condition of service;

Dr. Jamoh hands over relief items to President General of the Maritime Workers Union of NIgeria, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju

For his commitment to, belief in and contributions to  dismantling the Secure Anchorage Area (SAA) contract;

Buhari flanked by state officials during the launch of Assets of the Deep Blue Project

For spearheading the battle for the removal of the War Risk Insurance Premium and insisting that “It is significant that critical stakeholders in the world shipping community, like Lloyd’s List, are recognizing Nigeria’s efforts to make the Gulf of Guinea safe and secure for seafarers and ships, it would be unfair for the world to sidestep such huge investment and commitment to maritime security and retain the high war risk insurance premium on ships bound for our waters.” Jamoh asserts

For his support for and offerings to the transformation at the Maritime Academy of Nigeria;

For his belief in strengthening inter agency synergy and reduction in duplication of functions under his mantra of “One Country, One people, One Economy, Same Treasury”;

For his capacity development and empowerment initiatives within and beyond the Maritime Sector;

Need we mention the renewed vigour and passion for staff welfare, training, promotions and strategic deployment and redeployment of staffs of the Agency which has translated into efficient service delivery?

Need we mention the acknowledgements from world bodies such as the IMO, Baltic and International Maritime Council, BIMCO and others?

For these and more which shall be unfolded in due course;

Dr.  Bashir Jamoh, Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, is our Maritime Man of the year 2021.

Media/PR Unit

The NIMASA Media/PR Unit has been very consistent and proactive in handling media related matters.

The Unit has been very responsive in dealing with media issues at it concerns not only NIMASA but the entire industry.

Men and women of NIMASA PR Unit are at work around the clock, dishing out press releases even on Sundays!

Under Jamoh, gone are the days of  “media indebtedness”

The professionalism displayed by the Unit, the camaraderie spirit between staff and media practitioners as well as maritime stakeholders;

The friendliness and attention to details in the discharge of their duties makes the Unit outstanding and merits Maritime Nigeria’s coveted Media Award this year!
