AMJON Conference: Stakeholders Extol Group As NIWA, MWUN, ANLCA, Others Call For Collaboration

Stakeholders at the AMJON Conference

President General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju over the weekend, bagged the best labour leader award for the year 2021 from the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON).

Comrade Adeyanju is the first labour leader to bag the prestigious award from the maritime Media for his exceptional leadership qualities  in managing workers welfare while ensurin transparency in dealing with employers in the sub sector.

Speaking at the just concluded event tagged; ‘Seamless Port Operations in Nigeria’ organised by AMJON at Sheraton Hotel Lagos,the labour leader reiterated the Union’s commitment for workers welfare and industrial peace and harmony in the maritime sector.

Adeyanju who is also a trustee executive of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) pointed out that journalists play pivotal role in the shipping industry stressing the need for stakeholders in the industry to partner AMJON for effective and efficient dissemination of information on the industry.

While calling on the various media groups in the sector to collaborate and speak with one voice, the labour leader also urged organizers of the event to embark on investigative journalism to unearth the ills stalling the transformation of the maritime industry.

Adeyanju tasked AMJON to also think outside the box and ensure that members of the group adopt proactive Reportage mechanisms for the sector growth.

The MWUN boss urged executives of AMJON to stay focused; even as he described members AMJON a very responsible group of pen pushers.

He stressed the union’s commitment to collaborate with AMJON to further project the industry and ensure its growth and development

While presenting the award to the union’s icon, former President of the association, Mr. Ismail Aniemu described Comrade Adeyanju as a leader with a difference.

He said under the Adeyanju’s administration, dockworkers, seafarers, shipping companies and workers of NPA enjoyed industrial peace and harmony, urging him to keep the flag flying

Aniemu thanked the leadership of MWUN for their participation in this year’s event , stressing the need for a symbiotic relationship between AMJON and MWUN.
