The chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria, CIoTA, has stressed the need to institute sustainable transport infrastructure in all modes of transportation in the country so as to fast track and spread economic development to all nooks and crannies of the federation.

“Nigeria needs to move away from obsolete, unsustainable and dilapidated transport network which has hindered economic growth across the country” so said Barrister Osuala Emmanuel Nwagbara, Chairman organizing committee of the 3rd National Transport Summit by CioTA scheduled to hold in Abuja from 6-8 December 2021.

Chief Nwagbara assured Nigerians that CIoTA as an advocacy group will continue to engage and share knowledge with relevant stakeholders and operators in the transport logistics chain in order to evolve a sustainable transportation model for goods services that will be cost-efficient, cost-effective, safe, pocket friendly and secure for all Nigerians.

According to Nwagbara, from the first, second and moving to the third national transport summit,  CIoTA has brought about visible changes in the transport sector through constructive engagements with policy makers and all those who are saddled with the responsibility of implementing policies in  the country.

In his words, “Before now there was no barging operations along the waterways. Today, cargoes are being moved from location to location along our waterways.  The noticeable improvement in traffic corridors within Apapa in recent times has to do with the series of engagements we have had and continue to maintain with agencies and institutions saddled with the task of implementing government policies in the area of transportation in the country”

“A sustainable transportation network is good for the rich, poor, high profile personalities and all individuals irrespective of their status in society because transport is life”, Nwagbara emphasized.

With the theme Regulating The Transport Sector In Nigeria Their State-Of-The-Art And Years Ahead and other sub themes, the Chairman of this year’s summit disclosed that the Summit will interrogate the scope and implication of ongoing reforms and the transport sector by bringing together critical stakeholders, experts and policymakers to share knowledge in global best practices in the field of technical and economic regulations.

Expected at the Summit are policy makers and ministries of transportation, works, aviation, petroleum resources as well as multilateral agencies and transport professionals.

Speakers at the summit are drawn from the academia, transport operations, administration, management and logistics service providers.

While the third CIoTA transport summit will be chaired by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, ministers of transportation, Aviation, operators and agencies as well as captains of industries are also expected at the summit.

Recall that CIoTA is the premier chartered professional transport body in Nigeria that provides training, membership, certification amongst other functions that specifically address the work performed by transport professionals.

Chartered by an Act of the National Assembly in 2019, CIoTA is charged with the responsibility of advancing the study, training and regulation of the practice transport management and administration in Nigeria.
