“The Navy has ensured the Safety and Security of the Dockyard”-Jamoh

Dr. Bashir Jamoh, Director General, NIMASA

The Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Bashir Jamoh has commended the Nigerian Navy for its continued support to the Agency over the years.

Speaking during a meeting with the Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard Limited, Rear Admiral Kohath Levi on a working visit, Jamoh particularly appreciated the Nigerian Navy for hosting and securing the Agency’s floating dock since its arrival in the country.

Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh (3rd left); Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard Limited, Rear Admiral Kohath Levi (3rd right); Rear Admiral H. Ibrahim (2nd left); Head, Deep Blue ProjectOtonye Obom (2nd right); Head, Shipping Development, NIMASA, Mr. Inuwa Kurahson and Special Assistant, Media & Strategy to the DG NIMASA, Ubong Essien during a working visit by the NIMASA DG to the Naval Dockyard Limited in Victoria Island, Lagos

In his words,ā€œWe appreciate the Nigerian Navy for making available its facility for the Floating Dockyard since arriving Nigeria. This has ensured absolute security of this facility and as we all can see, the Dockyard is in good shape.ā€

The NIMASA DG also used the opportunity to undertake assessment of the floating dock noting that efforts to put the facility into use have reached an advanced stage.

While receiving the NIMASA DG and his team, Rear Admiral Kohath Levi assured that the Nigerian Navy would continue to support the Agency, bearing in mind that safeguarding the Nigerian territorial waters is a collective responsibility of all critical stakeholders.

When finalized, the floating dockyard is expected to bridge the dry docking facilities gap in the Nigerian maritime industry as well asĀ raise additional revenue for the government.

The Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission ICRC had described the Floating Dockyard as a profitable investment by Government.

The Federal Government had given approval for the Transportation Ministry to deploy the asset on a Public Private Partnership, PPP, basis and NIMASA is working in conjunction with the Nigerian Ports Authority to utilize facilities at the Continental Shipyard in Apapa to operate the facility profitably.
