“A Call to enhanced Service Delivery, a Requirement for Greater Commitment”-Kagbare

In the midst of the overall socio- economic challenges, it is easy to lose sight of the good there is and the progress made.

For good and progress, there sure shall be, as surely as the sun rises every day, life goes on, unimpeded, unending.

We must look out for, see and acknowledge the positives and recognize those working quietly but valiantly, defying the odds, to keep the flag flying in their respect domains.

Specifically, in the maritime sector, there are stakeholders and players who have held their own to stand out over the course of the outgoing year.

In our review of the activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), certain personalities are outstanding for their leadership astuteness and dedication to the call of duty.

Arising from a combined management and editorial Board meeting held over the weekend, there was unanimity among members of Data Resources Ltd, (Publishers, Trainers, Safety/Security and general Shipping Service providers) that the quartet of Dr. Bashir Jamoh, Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, hon. Jime Emmanuel, ES/CEO, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, Commodore Duja Emmanuel Effedua, (rtd), Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, MAN, and Dr. Bayero Salih-Farah, Director General of the Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology, NITT, Zaria, bagged the Awards of Distinguished Maritime Personalities, DMPs and recognitions on account of their dedication to national duty and commitment to ensuring improved efficiency in Nigeria’s maritime industry within the ambit of the mandate of their respective organizations.

For their quiet, supportive, constructive, growth oriented reforms and un-obstructive works, the Executive Directors, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services, Engr. Barr. Victor Ochei, Executive Director Operations, Mr. Shehu Ahmed and hon. Chudi Offodile, Executive Director, Finance and Administration, are listed among this year’s DMPs.

It is the view of the Maritime Nigeria group that the present NIMASA management team is the best thus far in the history of NIMASA.

Irrespective of varying views and approach to issues/challenges, resolutions have been reached without recourse to public intrusion and unnecessary politicking.

The focus on the job at hand, the contentment, sacrifices and patriotic zeal of the executive directors, we dare say, has been most inspiring and rewarding to industry and country.

From the list of the 2022 DMPs, Dr. Bashir Jamoh is Maritime Anchor Man of the year, while Hon. Jime of NSC is Regulatory Titan of the Year. In the same vein, Commodore Duja Emmanuel Effedua of MAN and Dr. Bayero Salih-Farah of NITT clinched the Maritime Change Agent of the Year and Transport Innovator/Strategic Reformist Awards respectively.

Some Customs officers also made the list of DMPs which shall be unveiled in due course alongside shortlisted personalities in the transport and logistics chain.

While congratulating the DMPs, the Publisher, Newsgate, Maritime Insider, Maritime Nigeria and other titles, Mr. Kelvin Kagbare, said the Awards are a call to enhanced service delivery, a requirement for greater commitment and added responsibility on the shoulders of the DMPs.

According to him “Many are called, it is a few that are chosen. We look not for perfection but for responsiveness, dedication and commitment to duty”

“These are the templates deployed to assess work done, grounds covered and mileage attained within the period”, Kagbare said even as he averred to disclose more DMPs and give further insight into the awards in the coming days.
