“I’m Still In Shock”-Rector

Barr. Margaret Onyema-Orakwusi

The Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Commodore Duja Emmanuel Effedua (Rtd.), has expressed shock at the passing of Mrs. Barr. Margaret Onyema-Orakwusi, which has sent shock waves across the maritime industry in Nigeria.

“We had shared vision, hopes and dreams. She was very passionate and Committed to the restructuring and Repositioning of the Academy. She was in the Academy in December last year for our Passing Out Parade, POP”

“She commissioned the  Margaret Orakwusi Exhibition Hall at the Academy alongside other dignitaries on the sidelines of the 2022 POP”

The industry has lost a passionate and committed stakeholder

“As recently as late March this year, I chatted with her on a number of issues. I am shocked, saddened and devastated by her sudden death. We pray for the repose of her soul and the fortitude for the family to bear this irreparable lose. The industry has lost a passionate and committed stakeholder”  the Rector said

Until her death, which family sources said occurred on April 28, 2023, after a brief illness, she was former Chairman, Nigerian Fishing Trawlers Owners Association (NIFTOA). She also served the industry as   Chairman, Nigeria Maritime Exhibition and Conference (NIMAREX) and Board Member, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC.
