“I have Done My Part, Its Time To Move On-Effedua

There are strong indications that the result oriented Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Commodore Duja Emmanuel Effedua (Rtd) may have resigned his appointment, with over a year to complete his tenure, reliable sources have hinted Maritime Nigeria.

Commodore Duja was first was first appointed in November 2017 and was subsequently re-appointed for a second term in September 2021 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Very dependable sources told Maritime Nigeria that the Rector’s resignation letter has been submitted to the Minister of the Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

Efforts to reach the Rector on this unexpected development yielded eventually and the father of the modern Maritime Academy of Nigeria said “My reasons are personal, l believe that the Rectorate is not a chieftaincy title, l have done what l was appointed to do. I have been able to set standards as a military man and administrator; l am satisfied with whatever achievements l was able to record. It is time to move on”

Pressed further for more insight, he responded “No Comment”

It is on record that the Rector carried out an unprecedented Restructuring and Repositioning of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria with a comprehensive clean-up of the Academy by closing financial leakages.

He improved cadets’ hostels and poor feeding, rejigged academic and non-academic staff orientation for positive results, expanded and refurbished staff quarters; completed abandoned and outstanding projects; and embarked on construction of structures and facilities for enhanced status of the academy in line with standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
