NSML: Unwavering Commitment To Economic Growth and National Development

As Company Celebrates 13million Man Hours without LTI
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, MD/CEO of the NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Ltd, NSML, Mr. Abdulkadir Ahmed has reiterated the company’s commitment to sustaining and upholding international best practices that drive economic growth and national development in Nigeria.
Addressing workers and partners during its 2024 Performance Recognition and Awards ceremony held at its operational base at Bonny Island, Rivers State, the MD disclosed that 2024 was a great year for the company in its operations and services.
His words, “2024 was one of our best years. We were able to exceed 13 million man hours without Lost Time Injury, LTI, in 2024. It was also a watershed year in terms of operational performance, both on our vessels, at the terminal and our various work locations”
“Operationally, we were able to exceed our best days when it comes to reliability and availability. But most importantly, it was also a watershed year in terms of our profitability. 2024 was our best year since inception when it comes to reliability.
“All of this wouldn’t have been achieved without the hard work and dedication of all our people. All our people are not just those on our payroll, but all our people includes everybody associated with what we do; our staff and our partners”
“It reflects what can be achieved if we all work together, collaborate together, but most importantly, keep our eyes on the ball. Today we celebrate the successes of 2024 and to appreciate everybody that has really contributed to what has been a wonderful year for us at NSML. We also recognize all our partners, because we wont be where we are without those partners working hand-in-hand with us, buying into our vision and buying into what we’ve decided to achieve and deliver”
Pin pointing some of NSML’s partners and agencies that have worked creditably with the company, the NSML Boss said
“To name just a few, all the government agencies, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Department of State Services (DSS), and all the relevant agencies that have worked with us, we want to say a big thank you for all that you do. Having achieved what we achieved in 2024, it basically entails that we have to go back and do the same. As we’ve always said in NSML, our strategic imperative still remains to be safe, to be reliable, but most importantly, to create value”
Expressing confidence and assurance with great optimism, the NSML boss assured “I am absolutely certain that if we continue to work together, if we continue to keep our eyes on the ball and most importantly if we continue to support one another, pushing the boundaries of operational excellence, we will be safe, we will be reliable, and we will create value for all our stakeholders”
To the Prize winners and partners Abdulkadir Ahmed implored “I thank everyone for being here. I’m sure it’s going to be an excellent night. It will be a night where it’s not just about those who win something, but about everybody that has contributed to it. Let us continue to work collaboratively and continue to deliver on what we’ve been delivering, so that we will ensure we exceed what we achieved last year” the MD said.
Preceding the Award and Recognitions where staffs, partners and regulatory agencies bagged awards, there was a media tour of facilities at the the Island.
The NSML Maritime Centre of Excellence, MCOE, with its world class Simulators was showcased as the place where Cadets are incubated for global excellence.
The MCOE Engine Room and Bridge Simulators were displayed as the best training tools available in the world by engineers Mariam and Udeme Offiong.
Offiong was emphatic that switching off a vessel’s Automatic Identification System, AIS does not insulate the vessel from detection by radar-and we left it there.
A tour of the Marine Central Tower revealed more shipping facilities and equipment available at NSML.
Apart from the very competent professionals manpower manning various aspects of its marine and shipping operations, the collaboration with other agencies such as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA and others was very evident as NPA’s MARPOL trucks were seen evacuating marine wastes at the jetty.
According to Hassan Auwal, head Marine Assets “The working relationship between NSML and government regulatory agencies and the Nigerian Navy is very robust and rewarding. We work hand in hand with the Nigerian Navy and the collaboration has been existing for long and it is a win win for all of us because at NSML our focus is on economic growth and national development
Auwal’s position was re-echoed by Ikenna Duru, Head, Marine Control Team who disclosed that aside working as a close knit team, it is their responsibility to ensure that vessel’s berth safely, load and depart as scheduled while making sure that the NSML navigational channel is kept safe and cleared of silt and debris always.
Evidently, NSML holds the four aces when it comes to providing shipping and marine services within and beyond the shores of Nigeria.
