Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has pledged the support of the Federal government to address and ensure that modern, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, operates efficiently as it enforces it regulatory role in Nigeria’s port industry.

The SGF who stated this during  his visit to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in Lagos also declared that the visit re enforces  FG’s commitment to delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda and the optimization of the Marine and Blue Economy initiatives.

While commending management of  the Council,  he  reiterated Government support for reforms aimed at improving Nigeria’s port sector and the economy in general even as he highlighted  the country’s overall development as President Tinubu’s major concern.

The  Executive Secretary of the NSC,  Dr. Pius Akutah, said that the visit of the SGF indicates the Council’s vital role in regulating and facilitating trade at Nigeria’s ports.

Akutah solicited more robust support for the Council’s transformation agenda, particularly as it prepares to evolve into the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA).

The meeting concluded with a renewed call for collaboration among stakeholders to realize a modern, efficient, and investor-friendly maritime environment which aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic roadmap as the SGF stressed the FG commitment to enhancing regulatory frameworks and facilitating service delivery in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
