Cargo Evacuation: Shippers’ Council, Ogun Govt Partner On Dry Port Activation

To accelerate cargo evacuation from Nigeria Sea Ports to the hinterland, facilitate trade and boost economic activities, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has opened discussions with the Ogun State Government on how to collaborate to actualize the development of the Gateway Inland Dry Port project in Ogun state.
This was the fulcrum of deliberations when the Executive Secretary of the Council, Dr. Pius Akutah, accompanied by his management team, visited the Governor of the state, Dr. Dapo Abiodun, at Government house, Abeokuta.
The Executive Secretary/CEO of the NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah, commended the governor for his development efforts in the state and expressed hope that the Gateway Inland Dry Port could become operational soon.
“The Council is determined to promote critical transport infrastructure such as inland dry ports to enhance trade facilitation and logistics efficiency across the country. It is our desire to promote critical transport infrastructure like inland dry ports, which you have thrown your weight behind. I am confident that this project will be realized before the end of your tenure,” Akuta said.
Akutah observed that while several legacy dry port projects across Nigeria are lagging, the Ogun State Dry Port shall be commissioned soon because of the seriousness and commitment to the project by the Abiodun led Government in the state.
“The Council shall not relent in championing seamless cargo movement and promote ease of doing business in Nigeria’s maritime and logistics sector” Akutah assured.
Governor Abiodun welcomed the NSC delegation warmly. He emphasized that the state government’s commitment to the Dry project is unwavering.
“the Gateway Inland Dry Port is a strategic infrastructure that would significantly boost the state’s economy by supporting manufacturing companies and industries. The port will go a long way to address logistical bottlenecks currently faced by manufacturers in transporting raw materials from Lagos State to Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun said.
The Governor assured the NSc delegation that once operational, the inland dry port will enhance cargo handling efficiency and strengthen Ogun State’s position as a major industrial hub in Nigeria.
Evidently, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and the Ogun state government are working to address trade hurdles and provide lasting solutions to logistics issues encountered by traders.
