The Maritime Academy of Nigeria, MAN after proper training, grooming and nurturing of several Cadets admitted to study at the school, has found one hundred and eighty (180) Cadets worthy in character and learning to graduate in its 2024 Passing Our Parade, POP, held at the Rotimi Amaechi Auditorium at the school Campus, Oron.
Welcoming dignitaries from the National Assembly, ministry of marine and blue economy, maritime stakeholders and others, Acting Rector of the Academy Dr. Kevin Okonna thanked stakeholders, families and friends for honoring their invitation to celebrate the successful completion of another academic cycle.
Dr. Okonna said the Academy prides itself as Nigeria’s foremost training institution having produced top maritime experts such as captain Sunday Umoren, Capt Warredi Enisuoh, Emmanuel Maiguwa, President, Alumni Association of Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron (AMANO) and many others.
His words “This Academy prides itself as Nigeria’s best and foremost maritime training institution on account of the many years of hard work and the outstanding results and contributions it has made to National development in Nigeria”
“There is hardly any notable agency or institution you go to in Nigeria that you will not find a former Cadet of this Academy in a top management position. Go to NPA, NIMASA, NLNG and others you will find our Cadets performing excellently”
“We pride ourselves for having produced highly skilled professionals and every POP is an opportunity to showcase our equipment, assets and the top quality training provided in this Academy”
“We pride ourselves as the training institution that facilitated the admission of Nigeria into the IMO white list
We pride ourselves as the training institution that has open its doors to order training institution to take advantage of our equipment to train and learn in order to achieve higher efficiency in maritime Operations”
“As we speak, we run 12 simulator based courses all credited even as we have the best eco-friendly environment for teaching and learning”

Maritime stakeholders in their good will messages congratulated management of the Academy and the graduating Cadets for achieving the milestone of graduation as many of those that started the journey with them could not make it to graduation.
“Captain Sunday Umoren, Secretary General of the Abuja MoU, Engr. Israel obadan, President, Association of Marine Engineers and Surveyors (AMES), Capt Tajuden Alao, President Nigerian Association of Master Mariners (NAMM), Mr. Emmanuel Maiguwa, President AMANO and other speakers urged the graduating Cadets to be worthy ambassadors of the Academy and Nigeria anywhere they find themselves even as master mariners, engineers and surveyors offered free mentorship to them in pursuit of their careers.
The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration, Hon. Khadija Waziri-Bukar lbrahim, represented by Rt. Hon. Uduak Alphonsus-accompanied by other members of the House, commended management of the Academy for the good job consistently done at the Academy
According to him “Since MAN was founded in 1977, the administration of Pastor Nseyen Ebong and the immediate past administration led by Cdre, Duja Emmanuel Effedua (rtd), demonstrated capacity and leadership. The Duja led administration turned things around and as lawmakers, we took note of the discipline, hard work and commitment shown. We are happy to note that Dr. Kevin Okonna was part of that administration, therefore as advocates of seamless transition and continuity, we see this Academy moving higher in the days to come”
“We shall support the Academy through parliamentary provisions in the areas of funding and legislation to enhance the performance of it statutory role. Do not hesitate to reach us whenever you need more funds for your operations” the lawmakers assured
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON,who was represented by the Director, Maritime Safety and Security, Mr. Babatunde Bombata, expressed satisfaction with the pace of progress made by the Academy.
He assured the Academy of continued support and charged the management, staff and cadets to embrace innovation and technology to broaden their reach and impact.
His words “Dear graduating cadets, l urge you all to embrace innovation, resourcefulness and deep thinking in your future endeavours. The marine economic sector has huge opportunities and your contributions will be instrumental in shaping a brighter future. The government is committed and will provide all the support required to ensure that you succeed in your careers.”
