Barely a month of assuming duty as the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Comptroller Joe Anani and his officers have recorded 111,270,357,236.25 as Revenue under the leadership of Controller Anani.

Speaking during a parley with media men at the Command yesterday, the CAC said the meeting marks an important step in in the Command’s deliberate effort to build stronger bridges of understanding and cooperation between the Command and the Media.
“Since assuming office, I have made it a priority to engage continuously with all critical stakeholders in the maritime sector, and the press remains one of the most vital components in that ecosystem” Anani said.

The CAC acknowledged the role of the media in the success of Customs operations, noting that the media is not just a channel of communication but a strategic partner in shaping public understanding, promoting accountability, and enhancing compliance within the system.
“Your reportage significantly influences public perception of our activities, and by extension, the effectiveness of our mandate” Anani noted
The Tin Can Customs top officer further noted that a well-informed and well-equipped media force does not only enhance the quality of national reportage but also strengthen institutional understanding of operations and challenges.
Putting the media to task, Comptroller Anai said “I must use this opportunity to charge members of the press to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their reportage of the Command’s activities. Responsible journalism is critical to maintaining public trust, preventing misinformation, and ensuring that our collective objectives are not undermined by inaccurate or misleading narratives”
On what to expect under his leadership of the Command, the Tin Can CAC said “As part of our forward-looking agenda, this Command will not relent in leveraging the ongoing modernization drive of the Service”
“We are committed to strengthening systems, processes, and technology- driven solutions that enhances efficiency, and trade facilitation”
Controller Anani was emphatically that his administration will enforce total compliance with all applicable laws and regulations as enshrined in the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
“Compliance will be at the heart of our operations, and we will continue to enforce the law firmly, fairly, and professionally” the CAC declared
On revenue collection, he disclosed that the Command collected
111,270,357,236.25 in the month of May.
“The Command is currently performing commendably in the area of revenue generation. This positive trajectory is a reflection of the dedication of our officers, improved compliance levels, and enhanced operational efficiency”
“We intend to consolidate on these gains and strive to surpass previous achievements under the preceding administration” Anani said
He thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD for the confidence reposed in him
by his deployment to head the Tin Can Command of the Service.
“I am deeply grateful for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to reforming and repositioning the Service for greater efficiency and global competitiveness, the controller said.
Anani reiterated that this Command will be open, collaborative, and committed to constructive engagement with all stakeholders.
“We can assure that Tin can Island Port Command will continues to play its critical role in national growth, trade facilitation, and revenue generation”
Specifically, Controller Anani emphasized that he will further strengthen relationship with the media, assuring that the Public Relations Unit of the Command has been charged with the responsibility of ensuring that all press-related matters receive the priority and attention they deserve.
“The Unit will maintain a close and continuous interface with members of the press, providing timely information, facilitating access to relevant developments, and fostering mutual understanding between the Command and the media”
“We believe that a strong and professional partnership with the press is essential to achieving our objectives and keeping the public adequately informed” Anani stated
With his experience, exposure and the enthusiasm displayed during the engagement with media practitioners, the template put in place by previous Controllers of the Command is solid enough for the CAC and his officers to work from and succeed.
